Chris Kurz - Barefoot Champion
Barefoot WaterskiingUnbelievable but true, it really is possible to ski on water using bare feet. At a speed of over 43 mph (70 km/h) the water becomes extremely hard and allows skiers to 'walk on water'. As if this is not exciting enough, top barefoot waterskiers perform spectacular stunts - jump-starting off bridges and jumping over ramps and other obstacles. In the Tricks event there are no limits to what can be done with barefoot waterskiing, from basic turns, flips and jumps to toe turns (where the rope is held in one foot); almost anything is possible. Whilst reaching speeds of up to 47 mph (76 km/h) in the Slalom event, the skier attempts to cross the wake of the boat as often as possible in a 15 second run whilst gaining extra points by using one foot. As a highlight to every competition there is a Jump event where skiers compete for the highest jump over a 2 meter long ramp, reaching heights of over 25 metres and then finishing by free-skiing upon landing.
